The big family of beneficiaries of PO “Filocalia” is expanding, this time – on the left bank of Nistru River, in the region of Grigoriopol. On September 3rd , we went for the first time to the village Speia to congratulate our newest friends with the beginning of the school year.
Speia is a large and beautiful village, but just like the rest of the country, much of the native population left to work abroad, and the location turns off bit by bit. Teachers tell that student’s number sadly decrease from 400 pupils in 2009 to nearly 150 pupils in 2013.
Unfortunately here, the most affected by poverty are children. The 20 pupils selected to receive donations from us have enjoyed the backpacks with school supplies and the candies received, saying a shy “Thank you” in Russian language. They were too tired after the ceremony of the new school year start to recite poetry, but they promised that they will take revenge at our next visit.
After history class that we took part in at the museum of the school, followed four visits to most vulnerable families from the village. They have received food parcels and hygiene products. Of course sweets were the great attraction for all children. The sadness, but also the joy of others, despite the poverty, convinced us to come back some day soon to this region.
