“A person that loves humanity can be useful not mainly through his actions, but through the example that he gives” (Andre Gide)

This year, having the wonderful experience from last years, PO „Filocalia” initiated the charity campaign „Be a Santa for someone”, hoping to make happy as many socially vulnerable children as possible. We made it! Even more then we initially hoped! This campaign is meant to help poor children, but also to remind to the community that there are families with real needs, people that are unhappy during the holidays. Our purpose is to make these people feel the spirit of the Holy Feasts.  The campaign was possible thanks to the support of German organization „Kindermissionswerk” and „Kerk in Actie” from Netherlands.

From the beginning of December, we started our charity trip to the villages of Moldova, full of sweets, toys, but also with donations gathered from people with a big heart, together with volunteers in fairytale costumes and a great Santa Claus at the helm of our wagon with gifts.

Between December 13 and January 8, 2014, together with our devoted volunteers and the sponsors of the campaign, we managed to brig joy form many beneficiaries. 180 children have participated to a winter show and theatre play at the Chisinau’s Theatre „Luceafărul”; 90 children from the Theoretical Lyceum „Ion Creanga” from Cosnita village, Dubasari region were visited by the itinerant theatre with a winter fairy tale; other more than 100 beneficiaries (from the Boarding school no. 5 from Chisinau, from the Day care center from Calarasi and from the Social center „House of hope” from Cosnita, Dubasari) enjoyed the presents and the sweets and danced and sang in a wonderful sketch organized by the volunteers in colorful costumes. Also the minors from the Penitenciary from Goiana region received gifts and participated to a concert organized for them by the choir from Costesti village, Ialoveni region.

15 solitary elderly from Cosnita village were not forgotten by us in this campaign, receiving first necessity food and hygiene packages. Also 20 elderly – beneficiaries of the local Social center enjoyed an excursion to a wonderful Monastery – Noul Neamt.

80 families with many children from the following localities have received presents and main necessary food and hygiene products directly from Santa Claus (one of our very active volunteers):

  • Sangera,
  • Chiperceni, Orhei
  • Costesti, Ialoveni
  • Speia, Gregoreopol
  • Drăguseni, Straseni
  • Zgurita,  Drochia
  • Tepilova, Soroca
  • Cotiujenii Mari, Soldanesti.

During our trips through the country, some other volunteers were busy with the Christmas Charity Fair organized by Moldexpo International exhibition center and Linella shops. The money gathered from the selling were given to the little masters and also the sweet gifts for each of them, hoping that this will as always motivate them to continue doing the great handmade works.

This year we had a few people who really helped, we thank them a lot for their implication: Corneliu Calancea, Cristina and Bogdan Ciobanu, Natalia Luca, Constantin Cheianu, Christian Brandstetter, Lidia Rotaru, Nicolae Chetrari. We also thank the people who helped and decided to remain anonimous. Our volunteers also contributed a lot with donations and we are very grateful to all of them. Legal entities who were near to us in this campaign were:  ”LINELLA”, Exhibition center ”MOLDEXPO”, Company ”ART Atribut”, church  „St. Nicolae” from Costesti, Ialoveni region, Company ”Debtcollection INCASSO”.

We hope that this kind of campaigns will become a tradition in our society and more people will help others to trust the magic of the winter holidays.
