After a difficult year, the holiday season should be a time of peace, joy and warmth. Christmas atmosphere brings light and reminds us of childhood, the excitement of waiting adorning the Christmas tree, the moment we dream to meet Santa Claus. As the previous years, PO “Filocalia” based on the idea that winter holidays must be celebrated by every single being, continued the beautiful tradition with the 5th edition of the charity campaign “Be a Santa for someone” hoping to help this time more people in need.

The campaign aims to help socially vulnerable people, also, by developing the concept “Gift from gift” to remind everyone that there are people who need support. This year we managed to organize more activities than we originally planned. The beneficiaries of the campaign were 450 children, 35 elderly and 60 needy families from the following locations:  Chirsovo and Congaz villages from Comrat region; Costesti village from Ialoveni region; Calarasi; Cotiujenii Mari village from Soldanesti region; Zgurita village from Drochia region; Cosnita village from Dubasari region; Harbovat village from Anenii Noi region; Grozeşti and Nisporeni villages; Chisinau.

In the period between 25 November 2015-07 January 2016, with devoted young volunteers and sponsors of the campaign, we managed to bring the spirit of the winter holidays and smiles to more beneficiaries. Thus, 60 children attended a winter show and watched a wonderful theatre play – “Eliza and the swans” by Andersen, at ” Luceafarul ” Theatre from the capital; other 150 beneficiaries (from the Resources Centers “Lucik solnta” from Congaz village, “Luci” from Chirsovo village, “Fidanjik” from Comrat, Placement Centre from Calarasi, auxiliary boarding school no. 5 from Chisinau and children from socially vulnerable families from Grozesti, Nisporeni region) enjoyed sweets, toys, they danced and participated in a lovely sketch together with volunteers of PO “Filocalia” dressed as characters from children’s favorite fairy tales.

Nothing is more beautiful than a smile on an elderly’s face enjoying a warm and comforting conversation and therefore the 30 elderly from Cosnita village, Dubasari region and from Zgurita village, Drochia region were not forgotten either during this year’s winter holidays. We visited them with food packages and gifts. Also, several families with many children received food and hygiene packs, and each child has chosen a box with candies and toys from Santa.

While „Filocalia’s”  Santa Claus was delivering gifts, moving from one village to another, other volunteers and children at the social Center ,, St. Filaret the Merciful ” from Costesti village spent their time making handmade items for sale at the yearly Christmas Fair, held in the network of shops FOURCHETTE and NIAGARA CITY fitness center between December 15- 30, but also at MOLDEXPO exhibition center between December 18 to 27 and within the network of national shops LINELLA between 18 and 30 of December, where 8150 lei were gathered and 7,000 lei donations. In this context, we express our profound gratitude to the up-mentioned representatives of commercial centers for promoting our campaign and we wish them great success in 2016, hoping for beautiful future collaborations.

We also bring special thanks for cooperation and support for the church “St. Nicholai” from Costesti village, Ialoveni region.

We managed to bring joy also with the help of many good hearted people (individuals). We say thank you so much for involvement to: Cristina and Bogdan Ciobanu, Corina Ersov, Oleg and Svetlana Nastase, Diana and Mariana Pojoga; Alexei Moraru, who was a devoted driver of “Filocalia” team, Tatiana Corcevaia, Aliona Levinte, Rucsanda Savciuc. And our volunteers, as always, contributed with donations of clothes, toys, fruits, food, and with their time. We are most grateful for all contributions and we are glad that the world is not indifferent to the problems of the less fortunate than us.

We hope that such campaigns become a tradition in our society and more and more people get involved in helping those who believe in the magic of the winter holidays and the Nativity.
